The Sarah Sloan struck the headland, broke up, and washed into the cove. No remnants of wreckage can be found there now.
There is little wreckage left in the cove. On several occasions, I swam the shores of this site, keeping an eye out for any sign or remnant of the shipwreck, but I failed to find anything. Perhaps the Sarah Sloan can best be remembered for its story of the struggles of our working lives, of people pushing themselves to the limits for different reasons. On the one hand, we see the respectable and well-to-do push for commercial gain, pushing crew and their craft against the forces of nature, all in the interest of financial profit. On the other, a humble, compassionate Indigenous man pushed his physical limits to save the life of a poor, injured, and half frozen Black man. Life sometimes unfolds with cruel irony when it demonstrates to us what is really most noble in human ambitions, attitudes, and actions.
